Vulcanization is the process whereby raw rubber is given consistency, strength, and durability by adding sulfur, tar, carbon, oil and other compounds, to the rubber. Processed vulcanized rubber cannot be recycled or reused because the sulfur molecules are bound to the raw rubber and are normally inseparable.
